In the forming (shaping) of the composite conductor required in the production of metal-sheathed high-temperature superconductors from ceramic materials (composite conductors) the superconducting properties of the conductor are at least partially lost. The superconducting properties can be restored by means of a subsequent heat treatment under oxygen in the temperature range of the orthorhombic phase. It has surprisingly been found that a targeted heat treatment in the temperature range of the tetragonal phase, preferably between 880 and 900@C, in vacuo or under a protective gas atmosphere, which is carried out before the oxygen aftertreatment, increases the critical current density.
