In the temp. control for the heating medium, used to feed a synthetic yarn (2) through a jet (3) to build up in a yarn plug (7) in an expansion chamber (5) as part of a crimping process, the take-off forces applied to the crimped yarn (2.1) to unravel the yarn plug (7) are measured and the measured values are used to modify the temp. of the heated medium. For the measurement of the take-off forces, the yarn (2.1) passes through a deflection system (17) between two fixed deflectors (14a,14b) for its sliding path movement to be converted into a setting value for the temp. control circuit. The yarn plug (7) is moved to a cooling stretch (27), for the leading end of the crimped yarn (2.1) to slide out over part of the cooling stretch (27). The cooling stretch (27) is moved according to the emerging speed of the yarn plug (7). ADVANTAGE - The method uses mechanical parameters to regulate the temp. of the heated medium, with simple measurement of actual values.
