Process for the production of optically active L-amino acids, new optically active L-amino acids with space-filling side groups and their use

Prodn. of optically active L-amino acids of formula (I) comprises reductively aminating an alpha -ketocarboxylic acid of formula (II) in a cofactor dependent enzymatic reaction in the presence of dehydrogenases. R = bulky, branched 5-10C alkyl contg. at least 1 tertiary C atom. Cpds. (I) are also claimed except when R is neopentyl. Further claimed is the use of (I) for the prodn. of optically active (S)-aminoalcohols of formula (III) and optically active 4-substd. (S)-2-oxazolidinones of formula (IV).
