Measurement wheel acceleration method for length measurement of cut wood moving in longitudinal direction

The wheel acceleration method involves using a hold-down or centring wheel (5) with a pneumatic tyre arranged before the measurement wheel (3), such that a wood section (2) passing beneath the measurement wheel forces it away from the conveyor path and out of contact with the wood, thus starting the length measurement. A friction wheel transmission is formed by the centring wheel and a drive wheel (7) in frictional contact with it. The centring wheel rotation caused by the wood section is transferred via the drive wheel to the measurement wheel, which is held elastically in contact with it, until the measurement wheel is force away from the conveyor path, and thus separated from the drive wheel. The already rotating measurement wheel then comes into rolling contact with the wood section.
