Zn is removed from solns. or slurries contg. Zn and Cr by converting the soln. or slurry into a weak-to-strong acid soln. in which the metals are present as di- or tri-valent ions, and passing the soln. through ion-exchanger(s) arranged in columns. The ion-exchanger is a selective resin contg. as active gp. di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid, which exchanges and binds Zn2+ ions against H+ ions. The Cr3+ ions pass through the ion-exchanger, to form a soln. contg. Cr and free from Zn.
