Work units are provided for reacting to the workpiece. The translation unit (30y) is moved across a first coil spring drive (1). A translation unit (30 x) has a second drive motor (14) in the direction of the x axis, which moves the translation unit (30x) in the direction of the x axis, across a second coil spring drive (12).The second drive motor is driven across a toothed shaft (13). The axial extension of this shaft corresponds to the length of the movement path (W) along the y axis. The first and the second drive motors (4, 14) work in fixed conjunction with the plotter table.
