The device has a base (11) intended to be laid out on an object (20), and a transmitter (15) assembled on the base to emit light beams (17, 18), which are directed toward a plotting zone in a direction across a definite element (25). A trace of the light beams on the plotting zone plots a position of the definite element. An offset unit (13) is arranged between the transmitter and the base, where the offset units are designed to off-set the light beams with respect to an opaque surface (24) formed between the definite element and the zone. An independent claim is also included for a method for plotting a position of a definite element.
