Aqueous coating compositions and their use in a method for one-coat - and multicoat paint system

The invention concerns coating agents and their use in preparing single or multi-coat coatings. The coating agents comprise an aqueous mixture of: I) 99 - 70 wt. % of a mixture of: A) 50 to 100 wt.% of one or a plurality of binders, at least some of which carry ionic groups; B) 0 to 50 wt.% of one or a plurality of crosslinking agents for binders A), at least some of which can carry ionic groups, the ionic groups present having the same charge as component A); and II) 1 to 30 wt.% of one or a plurality of binders (component C) which can be mixed with one another by the binders of component A) both at the storage temperature and at the curing temperature of the coating agents, and which carry ionic groups whose charge is the opposite of the charge of the ionic groups of component I), the wt.% in each case being relative to the resin solids weight, and the portions of components I) and II) being adapted to each other such that 0.5 to 70 % of the number of charges of the ionic groups of I) are neutralized by the charges of the ionic groups of II); and III) conventional paint additives and/or pigments and/or fillers, and optionally one or a plurality of solvents conventional in paints.
