A nuclear reactor fuel element which can easily be inserted into a reactor core has a bottom fitting with a frame plate (28) located on the underside; this frame plate (28) has on the underside a centring bushing (34) in which there engages a centring pin (6) which stands on a lower core grid plate (2) of the reactor core and terminates in a cone (6a) having an acute angle of inclination alpha with respect to the longitudinal axis of the centring pin (6); the acute angle of inclination of the insertion bevel (34a) of the wall of the centring bore (34) with respect to the longitudinal axis of the centring bore (34) has a value in the range from 0.7 alpha to 1.3 alpha . The shape of the bottom fitting (14, 15) can be somewhat altered for even more effective ease of insertion. IMAGE
