In order to prepress grass, hay or other soft vegetable parts lying in swaths, already on the meadow or fields a device has two adjacent crushing devices (1, 2) rotative around vertical axes and whose rotating crushing surfaces cooperate in such a way that the material to be crushed is pulled in between the crushing surfaces and compressed during driving. At least one crushing device is driven by a motor. A pressure roller (10) rotative around a horizontal axis is arranged before and above the crushing devices in the direction of travel. The crushing devices may be designed as wheels that turn in opposite directions and are provided with an elastic envelope or as revolving endless belts (17, 18). This prepressing device can be attached to a farming vehicle.
