A device for controlling the cyclic operation of a machine (1), in particular a textile machine, is of the type able to self-learn each machine working cycle. It comprises means (6) arranged to compare data obtained by suitable sensor means (3) during normal operation of the machine (1) with data obtained by the same sensors (3) during the self-learning cycle, and control means (7) arranged to halt the machine (1) when a discrepancy between said data occurs.
