PURPOSE:To operate a transversal filter section stably without saturating an input to an A/D converter even when fading is increased. CONSTITUTION:An A/D converter 12 samples and quantizes a base band signal whose gain is adjusted by an automatic gain circuit 24, and the result is fed to a transversal filter 13 controlled by a tap coefficient control circuit 15, its output signal is inputted to a multiplier 25 controlled by a fading detection circuit 27, in which the output level is corrected and the result is outputted. In the case of large fading, since a multiplication coefficient is large, the gain of the gain control circuit 24 is decreased and the input to the A/D converter 12 is not saturated. Since the operation is implemented smoothly, the loop of the automatic equalizer is not divergent.
