Oxydative hair dye composition of a paraphenylene diamine and a metaphenylene diamine, and method of application

An oxidn. dyeing compsn. (A) for keratin fibres, esp. human hair, comprises a medium suitable for dyeing contg.: (a) at least one oxidn. dye precursor selected from p-phenylenediamine derivs. of formula (I) and their acid addn. salts; and (b) at least one coupler selected from m-phenylenediamine derivs. of formula (II) and their acid addn. salts. m = 0 or 1; n - 1-4; R1 = H, 1-3C alkyl or 2-3C monohydroxyalkyl; R2 = H or 2-3C mono- or dihydroxyalkoxy; R3 = 1-3C alkyl, 2-3C mono- or dihydroxyalkyl, 2-3C aminoalkyl or 2, 4-diaminophenoxy (1-4C) alkyl; providing that if R1 = H or alkyl, then R2 is other than alkyl; and if R2 = mono- or dihydroxyalkoxy, then R1 = H and R3 = mono- or dihydroxyalkyl. Also claimed are: (i) a process for dyeing keratin fibres (esp. human hair) by applying (A) to the fibres and developing the colour in an alkaline, neutral or acidic medium using an oxidising agent, which is added to (I) immediately before use or applied separately (simultaneously or separately) in another compsn. (B): and (ii) a multi-component dyeing kit for the process, having at least two compartments, one of which contains (A) and another of which contains (B) (i.e. an oxidising agent in a medium suitable for dyeing).
