Brassica oleracea plants with cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) contg. mitochondria derived from Ogura CMS cytoplasm and chloroplasts derived from normal fertile B.oleracea, are new. The plants are cauliflower, white cabbage, Brussels sprouts or broccoli plants. They are produced by (a) fusing protoplasts of a B.oleracea strain having commercially desirable traits with inactivated or nucleus-free protoplasts of an Ogura CMS B.oleracea strain, (b) regenerating the resulting allogenic cells, (c) growing plants from the cells, and opt. (d) using the plants to develop other strains by in vitro and/or corssing techniques.
