An Al alloy cylinder head, for a petrol or diesel engine, has valve seat or combustion chamber inserts inserted directly during casting. Pref. the inserts are made of an alloy with an expansion coefficient close to that of aluminium, e.g. a Cu-Be, Cu-Co-Be, Cu-Ni-Cr, Cu-Ni-Be, Cu-Cr-Zr or similar alloy.
