The handling machine consists of a hoist (3) carried on a support structure (2) with a motor (4) moving a cable (5) to lift the load (8). The tension in the cable (5) is controlled by pneumatic rams (12,17,18) whose piston shaft (15,21) or body (20) is connected to the cable (5). The chambers of the rams (12,17,18) are connected to supplies of compressed air at different pressures.
