The weed destroyer consists of a frame which travels horizontally over the ground and has a series of burners (91) which are fed with a combustible fluid and are mounted in a horizontal row on the frame. Each of the burners is attached adjustably to a bar (55) set at right angles to the direction of travel and can be pivoted about an axis (A). The pivot axes of all the burners are parallel to one another and perpendicular to the direction of travel. The bar (55) is made from two components and carries the burner supports, which comprise two jaws (64,65) and a nut and bolt (67,70) to fix the jaws against the bar components. Each of the bar components has a core (56,62) and at least one rib (58,63) to engage with the jaws.
