The amplifier linearisation method involves utilising the phase comparator (5), taking signals from input and output couplers (7,8), and measuring the nonlinearities in phase introduced by the nonlinear amplifier (10) in a first negative feedback loop. It controls the phase shifter (6) which lies in advance of the NL amplifier. The amplitude is initially corrected by action on a supply modulator (11) to the amplifier in open loop. A second fine correction is made by the CGA amplifier (20) in advance of the amplifier and controlled by an input-output amplitude error signal formed in a second negative feedback loop. An alternative has the modulator controlled in closed loop by a power comparator.
