The lead brick, e.g. for use in a nuclear power station, has a resistant coating (16) of an elastomer material with a smooth outer surface capable of decontamination. The coating can be a two-component silicone elastomer which reticulates at ambient temperature from a viscous state in which it has self-levelling properties; made from polyorganosiloxane with a silica charge. The coating is applied to the brick in an even layer not exceeding 5 mm in thickness. It can be moulded in a liquid state by plunging the brick into a mould containing the coating material, which is then left to reticulate.
