Display device with electromagnetically operated movable element and hall effect device operated light switching

An array of display elements 18 are driven between ON and OFF positions 18A, 18B, where an element bright side is or is not displayed in the viewing direction by a magnetic field individual to each element. A Hall effect switch 122 is located in each field and used to control a circuit in accord with the field polarity. The circuit may be used to provide lights which augment the appearance of an element in a viewing direction through holes 26 in the elements. A power control circuit of the type used in dimmers, using phase control and a clipper is used to power the lights and the Hall element.
