An artificial crown 2 is attached to a natural tooth 1 by a post or pin 4 which is fixed more securely into the tooth than into the crown. The tooth may be reinforced with a band or binding 5 of stainless steel or carbon fibre-reinforced plastics so as to withstand loading and stress. The crown and fixing cement 3 may also be of less strength than the natural tooth so that they fail under stress before the tooth is damaged.
