PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the progress of erosion of a furnace bottom sidewall brick and to prolong the service life of the furnace bottom lining of a blast furnace by calculating an overall thermal conductivity of a ramming material from heat flux value in the furnace bottom sidewall brick and forcedly feeding press patching refractory into the position lowered in this value. ;SOLUTION: At least two pieces of thermometers having different lengths are arranged on the straight line in the radial direction in the furnace bottom side wall brick of the blast furnace. The heat flux (q) in the sidewall brick is calculated based on the equation from each measured value T1, T2 of the thermometers (wherein, T3 is the surface temp. of a furnace outer shell, (d) is the thickness of the ramming material, d1 is distance between the tip parts of the thermometers and d2 is the thickness of the furnace outer shell). Successively, the overall thermal conductivity λ of the ramming material interposed between the side wall brick and the furnace outer shell is calculated based on the equation (wherein, λ1 is the thermal conductivity of the side wall brick, λ2 is the thermal conductivity of the furnace outer shell and T3 is the surface temp. of the furnace outer shell). To the position showing the low λ value to the initial value (the value at the time of constructing), the press-patching refractory of mortar, etc., is forcedly fed and filled up into a gap to raise the λ value. By this method, the raising of the temp. at the furnace bottom sidewall of the blast furnace is prevented to restrain the erosion of this brick.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
