PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technical process enabling the investigation and test of submergence resistance of a plant with a simple apparatus by setting a submerged state similar to practical state and to provide a water tank for the test and a method for estimating submergence resistance. SOLUTION: A plant such as lawn is grown on a flat medium 10 and the medium 10 is placed in a water tank 20 in a state to slantly cross the water surface with the medium surface. The plants on the medium 10 are placed in a submerged environment and a non-submerged environment by setting the water level to a level not to cause the submergence of the plant at the upper end of the medium. As an alternative, the water level is varied with time or following the level variation pattern of an actual submerged case. The water tank 20 is provided with a medium attaching member 30 to detachably attach the flat medium 10 slantly in the water tank. The walls of the water tank surrounding the growing plant main body on the medium are made to allow the transmission of light and the part surrounding the root part of the plant on the medium 10 is made to shield the light transmission. The tank is further provided with a level-controlling pump 40.
