PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the polarized independent time division multiplex demultiplex circuit not requiring polarized wave control. ;SOLUTION: Let a 4 optical wave mixing generating efficiencies of signal lights corresponding to two orthogonal polarized waves (TE and TM polarized waves) in a waveguide nonlinear optical medium be ηTE ηTM, let proportional constants be kTE, kTM, and let an angle of the TE major axis with respect to a polarized wave direction of a control light be θ, then relations of ηTE=kTE (Iccos2θ)2 and ηTM=kTM(Icsin2θ)2 are established. Let θ=tan-1(kTE/kTM)1/4, then the 4 optical wave mixing light generating efficiencies with respect to the TE and TM polarized waves are made equal to each other and no polarized wave control is required.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
