PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new antibody useful for confirmed diagnosis of HIV infection, etc., specifically recognizing a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1gag protein p17 antigen, suitable for detecting the p17 antigen. ;SOLUTION: This new monoclonal antibody is a protein or a peptide derived from HIV-1gag protein p17 antigen, specifically recognizes an amino acid sequence comprising three or more amino acids starting from the N end of the amino acid sequence of the formula, is useful for detecting the p17 antigen and is effective for confirmed diagnosis of HIV infection. The monoclonal antibody is obtained by fusing a mammalian immunocyte immunized against an immunogen containing the amino acid sequence comprising three or more amino acids starting from the N end of the amino acid sequence of the formula derived from HIV-1gag protein p17 with a mammalian myeloma cell to prepare a hybridoma, cloning the hybridoma and culturing the hybridoma.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
