MULTIAXIS LENGTH MEASURING INSTRUMENT FOR NC MACHINE TOOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continuous and automatic measurements on each of the axes of an NC machine tool. ;SOLUTION: A multiaxis interferometer 14 includes spectral diffraction mechanism parts, for reflecting incident laser beams in the directions of (x), (y), and (z) axes, and a switching mechanism for the spectral diffraction mechanism parts. A computer 20 imparts a command to drive to an NC controller 22 according to the contents of a measuring program, operates a milling machine following a predetermined procedure, compares length measurement data obtained by means of a laser head 12 with reference data to calculate correction data, causes the NC controller 22 to sample that calibrated value, and causes the switching mechanism of the multiaxis interferometer 14 to perform switching action to change the direction of its measuring axis by actuating the controller 24 every time an operation on each axis is finished.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
