PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inorganic material excellent in photophysical and photoelectrochemical characteristics by making superfine crystal of CdS exist in pores of an inorganic material. SOLUTION: This superfine crystal of CdS is obtained by introducing a vapor of cadmium dithiocarbamate into pores of an inorganic material and then thermally decomposing cadmium dithiocarbamate. The superfine crystal of CdS hardly causing lattice defect uniformly existing in pores of an inorganic material can be efficiently produced by the method. Since the inorganic material containing CdS interesting in terms of photophysical and photoelectrochemical characteristics in the pores, the inorganic material is useful as an electrode and can constitute a photoelectrochemical element.
