PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain errors caused by manual work and to surely perform the increase/decrease processing of a frame number by reading a DX code recorded on film and deciding the carrying direction of the film based on the DX code. ;SOLUTION: A signal obtained by reading the DX code 12 of the carried film by a photosensor 3 is amplified to a specified level in the waveform forming circuit 41 of a decision means 4 and compared with reference voltage, so that two systems of pulse train signals based on the arraying pattern of the stripes of the DX code 12 are demodulated to DX data. In the case a start code is detected first, a conversion circuit 42 decides the carrying direction as a 'forward direction' and demodulates the signal. In the case the start code is not detected first, the circuit 42 demodulates the signal after the order in a pulse train is rearranged to be reversed inside and decides it as a 'reverse direction'. Furthermore, a processing means 5 performs processing to increase or decrease frame number data by a code number reading means 2 based on the decided direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
