PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To initialize a parameter such as the width of a dead zone and to set an optimum parameter by allowing an input signal to be controlled to pass a filter to obtain a signal and adopting the signal as dead zone width. ;SOLUTION: A position controlling hydraulic servo device having an electromagnetic proportional solenoid valve and a hydraulic cylinder is adopted as a device to be controlled and the position of the hydraulic cylinder is detected by a position sensor and controlled by adaptive control. In this case, an input signal Ω to be controlled is allowed to pass a filter Df(q) to obtain a signal and the obtained signal is adopted as dead zone width do(k). The dead zone width d(k) is obtained by do(k)=|α-1Df(q)Nn(q)| (provided that the α is adaptive gain and the Nn(q) is a molecular polynomial for a transmission function to be controlled which is estimated by an input signal).
