PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the loss of resources for a path designation node by operating a partial packet abort device. ;SOLUTION: A computer network includes plural path designation nodes, and each path designation node 11 is connected to another selected path designation node and at least some path designation nodes 11 connect to one of plural packet destinations in packets from plural packet sources. Each path designation node designates a path reaching a packet destination in a packet including plural cells generated by a packet source and sent serially. At least some path designation nodes 11 makes the operation of an 'early packet abort controller' available upon the detection of selected congestion. In this system, received cells relating to a packet whose cell are not received before the operation of the early packet about controller are aborted. The path designation nodes 11 adjust periodically the congestion at which the early packet abort controller is in operation with respect to information corresponding to a cell reception and a cell transmission rate for a preceding selected period.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
