PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To partially change microwave doses to thaw and heat 'sushi' without warming a topping of the 'sushi'. ;SOLUTION: This equipment provided with a magnetron 10 which generates microwaves introduced into a thawing/heating chamber 12 for thawing and heating a food is also provided with a metallic food container 14 having a dimension so as to encase the food in the chamber 12. The metallic food container 14 is provided with microwave-penetrable windows 16 and 17 in its outer faces, for example, in the top and bottom faces, to partially change the microwave dose to the food placed in the container. The microwave-penetrable windows 16 and 17 are made of a material that has a relative dielectric constant ε2 with a magnitude of the square root of the relative dielectric constant ε1 and the thickness of one-fourth of the wave length λ of the microwave. When the food is 'sushi', the microwave penetrable window 17 on the side of vinegared boiled rice is made larger than that on the topping of the 'sushi'.
