PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel material for stack, flue, and heat exchanger, having superior corrosion resistance even in an environment containing hydrochloric acid or mixture of hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, excellent in hot workability, weldability, etc., and less expensive than SUS316L stainless steel. ;SOLUTION: This austenitic stainless steel has a composition which consists of, by weight, ≤0.05% C, ≤4.0% Si, ≤2.0% Mn, ≤0.040% P, ≤0.010% S, 16.0-20.0% Cr, 8.0-14.0% Ni, 0.03-0.5% Nb, 0.05-0.25% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and further contains, if necessary, one or more kinds among 0.3-1.5% Mo, 0.3-4.0% Cu, 0.005-0.05% Al, 0.0002-0.005% Ca, 0.0002-0.005% Mg, 0.0002-0.002% B, 0.001-0.1% Pt, and 0.001-0.1% Ru and in which the value of Ni-bal., represented by the equation, Ni-bal.=Ni+30(C+ N)+0.5Mn-1.1(Cr+1.5Si+0.5Nb+Mo)+8.2, is regulated to -2.5 to 1.0.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
