PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new promoter capable of mass producing a useful protein by manifesting the objective useful gene by an animal cell, being a DNA having a specific base sequence or a part of the DNA, having promoter activity in the animal cell. ;SOLUTION: This new DNA is a DNA selected from the group consisting of base sequences of formula I to formula IV or a part of the DNA and has promoter activity in an animal cell. The objective useful gene manifested in an animal cell by using the DNA fragment as a promoter and a protein for which the gene codes can be mass produced. The new promoter is obtained by treating a DNA of a clone containing the upper stream part of an N- acetylglucosaminyl transferase III (human GnT-III) gene separated from a fetal liver cDNA library and a genome cosmid library with a restriction enzyme and separating a domain having strong promoter activity in the upper stream of the gene.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
