RADICAL EXTRACTING METHOD AND HINTING INFORMATION GENERATING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately correct the line width by automatically extracting a radical from information on outline point coordinate values and outline point numbers constituting a closed curve and generating a hinting information on every radical for any font. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a read-in part 102 which reads coordinate data on the outline points constituting the closed curve out of a font file 1, an area calculation part 103 which calculates the area of the closed curve on the basis of the coordinate data, an area sorting part 104 which rearranges the closed curve numbers in the decreasing order of the area, and a radical list generation part 105 which judges whether or not the closed curve includes another closed curve in the sorting order and groups closed curves by judging that they belong to the same radical when so. Further, the device is equipped with a line pair generation part 106 which extracts a pair of segments of a horizontal and a vertical line part forming a black line pattern according to the radical list and a hinting information write part 107 which adds hinting information consisting of the edge numbers of the couple of the segment to the font file 1 and stores them in a font file 2.
