PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new artificial antigen having a specific amino acid sequence and useful for the preparation of vaccine, diagnostic, etc., for Helicobacter pyrori infectious diseases to cause digestive diseases, an anti- Helicobacter pyrori urease antibody, etc. ;SOLUTION: This new artificial antigen originated from Helicobacter pyrori urease protein is composed of a peptide having an amino acid sequence of the formula, its immunologically effective fragment or its functionally equivalent variant. It is useful as a vaccine or diagnostic for Helicobacter pyrori(HP) infectious diseases suspected to cause digestive tract lesion or an antigen for the preparation of an anti-HP urease antibody, etc. The artificial antigen can be produced by synthesizing a number of polypeptides corresponding to partial amino acid sequences in the A subunit and the B subunit of HP urease, examining the reactivity of each peptide fragment with known anti-HP urease antibody and selecting a peptide fragment having high reactivity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
