PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a soil for cultivating crops capable of suppressing the invasion of plant parasitic nematodes causing damage to the crops thereinto by setting the grain diameter of grains within a specific range and providing the grains with functions to enable the retention of water in the grains. ;SOLUTION: This soil for cultivating crops has 0.5-30mm grain diameter of grains, which are provided with functions to enable the retention of water. Grains prepared by baking and sieving diatomaceous earth, clay, chaff, etc., those obtained by sieving lava, pumice, zeolite, etc., which are natural minerals or those prepared by baking an industrial waste, providing water retaining functions thereto and further selecting the grain size, etc., are excellent as the grains satisfying the conditions. Furthermore, grains having high physical strength without readily disintegrating are excellent in order to stably suppress the invasion of nematodes for a long period. The solid-phase ratio of the soil for cultivating crops concerned with the water retaining properties is 3-35%. When the pH of the soil for cultivating the crops is unsuitable, a granular limestone, etc., are added thereto for use and the fertilizer application is carried out by previously using a granular fertilizer or occasionally using a liquid fertilizer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
