PURPOSE: To culture an animal cell in high productivity while suppressing the injury of the cell even at a high cultivation density by putting a micro-carrier supporting animal cells and a culture liquid, etc., into a culture tank and generating a vortex flow by a rotor placed concentric with the culture tank. ;CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical rotor 2 made of glass, a metallic material such as stainless steel, a plastic material such as polycarbonate, etc., is placed in a culture tank 1 concentrically with the tank in a state freely rotatable in circumferential direction. A culture liquid B and micro-carriers composed of beads such as glass beads or polystyrene beads and holding animal cells on the surface are put into the gap between the culture tank 1 and the cylindrical rotor 2, i.e., the space 3 between the inner circumferential wall surface of the culture tank 1 and the outer circumferential wall surface of the cylindrical rotor 2. The cylindrical rotor 2 is rotated in the circumferential direction to generate a vortex flow consisting of a laminar flow (Taylor vortex) in the mixture of the culture liquid B and the micro-carriers carrying the animal cells.
