PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water tank level control device for hydraulic power plant allowing the operation at a high level even in the dry season when little water flows into a water tank. SOLUTION: This water tank level control device for hydraulic power plant has standard level setting means (51-55) for setting a plurality of standard levels; an inflow quantity calculating means (22) for calculating the inflow quantity of the water flowing into a water tank; standard water level selecting means (A1-A5) for selecting an optimum standard level where the inflow quantity is equal to the flow rate of the water for rotating a hydraulic turbine; and water level control means (11, 13-17, A1-A5) for switching the level to a higher level by one stage to reduce the intended output value of a hydraulic turbine generator when the output of the hydraulic turbine generator is reduced less than the lower limit value of output range of the hydraulic turbine generator continuously for a fixed time, or switching the level to a lower standard level by one stage to increase the intended output value of the hydraulic turbine generator when the output of the generator reaches the upper limit value of output range of the hydraulic turbine generator determined by the selected standard level.
