PURPOSE: To provide a raw sheet film diameter detecting device in a packing machine capable of automatically measuring the raw sheet film diameter when the film is used without measuring the raw sheet film diameter by a user. ;CONSTITUTION: A fourth drive motor 40 is connected to a raw sheet film 15, and the raw sheet film is rotated in the prescribed direction to feed a strip- shaped film 16, and guided to a bag-making device 18. A second distance measuring instrument 53 to measure the length of the arc of the raw sheet film is fitted to a rotary shaft 43 of the raw sheet film, and a movable first distance measuring instrument 51 is provided while the strip-shaped film is pulled out. The fourth drive motor is rotated for the prescribed period of time, a length of the arc of the rotary shaft 43 and the moving distance (the length of the arc of the raw sheet film) are measured by the respective measuring instruments, and transmitted to an operation and processing unit to obtain the raw sheet film diameter from both data and the diameter of the rotary shaft.
