SCANNING METHOD USING SCANNING RANGE FINDER AND RANGE FINDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical rangefinder suitable for crash preventer of automobile or other vehicle where low cost, accuracy, reliability and easy mounting are essential. SOLUTION: The scanning rangefinder comprises an optical scanner and a light source wherein the optical scanner comprises a rotary scanning disc 20 including concave reflectors arranged in circle. Light from the light source is directed toward the concave reflector on the rotary scanning disc 20 thence toward a target by means of mirrors 14, 22a, 24a, 26. Light received from the target is directed along a plurality of channels toward the concave reflector on the rotary scanning disc 20 by means of mirrors 46, 26, 24b, 22b. A detector for receiving the light reflected from the concave reflector is provided for each channel and a parallax data from the detector is subjected to error correction. The light is directed toward the target along a channel displaced laterally from the channel for receiving the light from the target.
