PURPOSE: To obtain a high brightness electrolytic polishing liquid for stainless steels which is low in liquid cost and creates excellent surface brightness over a long period by incorporating a specific amount of potassium dichromate into an aq. sulfuric acid soln. of a specific concn. ;CONSTITUTION: The potassium dichromate is incorporated at 10 to 100g/l into the soln. which has the sulfuric acid concn. of 45 to 60% and the balance basically water and, if necessary, ferric sulfate is incorporated therein at 2 to 20g/l. As a result, the inexpensive high brightness electrolytic polishing liquid for stainless steels having the long liquid life without contg. phosphoric acid is obtd. The electrolytic polishing by the electrolytic polishing liquid is preferably executed at an electrolytic current density of 50 to 500A/dm2 and a liquid temp. of 90°C to the b. p. or below. At this time, the metal salt precipitated and settled in the electrolytic polishing liquid and the supernatant liquid are further completely mixed and 5M to 3Mg/l of water is preferably added to the mixture according to the dissolution amt. of Mg/l of the dissolved metal ions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
