PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high sensitivity by providing the silver halide emulsion with chemical sensitizing nuclei having the max. size of a specific value or above and specific value or below in the diameter of the circle of equal projected area. ;SOLUTION: This silver halide emulsion has the chemical sensitizing nuclei having 0.2 to 4.0nm max. size in the diameter of the circle of the equal projected area. In such a case, the max. size of the chemical sensitizing nuclei refers to the size of the chemical sensitizing nuclei formed on one particle of the silver halide. If the max. size of the chemical sensitizing nuclei is below 4nm, the induction period before the start of development is equal to the fogging of the non-sensitized emulsion and the fogging by the chemical sensitization dies not at all. If, however, the size exceeds 4nm, the induction period is gradually shorter and if the size is 6nm, the induction period is equal to the latent image of the developable smallest size. As a result, the fogging accompanying with the increase in the sizes of the chemical sensitizing nuclei is suppressed to min. and the high sensitivity is obtd.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
