PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recognition without any error even when a hand is fluctuated in any direction different from the original direction in the middle. ;SOLUTION: The numerical value of direction data is read out of a basic stroke dictionary (31) and a middle return length register is cleared (32). Next, whether it is the line segment of pen down or not is judged (33) and it is judged whether the direction is included in a range or not (34). Then, the length of a line segment is added to the middle return length register (35). The address of a diagonal buffer is advanced (36). The length of the line segment is added to a main length register (38). The address of the diagonal buffer is advanced (39). Whether it is the line segment of pen down or not is judged (40).
