PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound useful as a starting substance for the production of 2-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy) ethoxy]-3,5-diaminopyridine and having improved safety, to provide a process for the production of the compound, to obtain an intermediate for the compound and to provide a process for the production of the intermediate. ;SOLUTION: The objective compound (A) is 2-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy]-3,5- pyridinedicarboxamide. The intermediate for the compound A consists of (B) 2-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethxy]-3,5-pyridinedicarbonitrile, (C) 2-chloro-3,5- pyridinedicarbonitrile and (D) 3,5-pyridinedicarboxamide 1-oxide. The compound A can be produced by the hydrolysis of the compound B which is produced by reacting the compound C with diethylene glycol in the presence of a weak base. The compound C is produced by the dehydrative chlorination of the compound D, which is produced by the oxidation of 3,5-pyridinedicarboxamide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
