PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material applicable to a molding process by which mass production can be performed at a low cost by polymerizing a mixture containing a specified methoxysilane compound and a specified noncross-linking silicon- containing monomer. ;SOLUTION: A mixture containing a methoxysilane compound (A) of formula I [wherein X is (meth)acryloyloxy, vinyl, a group of formula II or allyl; Z is a direct bond or a 1-3 C alkylene; R1 is a 1-6 C alkyl; and (n) is 1-3] and a hydrophobic silicon-containing monomer (B) being copolymerizable with compound A and not undergoing a cross-linking reaction is polymerized to obtain a substantially noncross-linked low-water-content ophthalmic lens material. This material is applicable to a molding process by which ophthalmic lenses such as contact lenses can be mass-produced at one time and at a low cost.
