PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handwriting pattern recognition device which can perform pattern recognition in a short time without reference to the input direction of a handwriting pattern. ;SOLUTION: After the handwriting pattern is inputted with an input pen 1, a segment along the handwriting pattern below it or on its right side is inputted as tilt information. A tilt detection part 14 inputs the two-dimensional coordinate data of the tilt information and detects the tilt angle and the input direction of the handwriting pattern according to the data. A tilt correction part 15 corrects the rotation of the handwriting pattern according to the tilt angle. A character recognition part 17 compares the rotation-corrected handwriting pattern with reference character data stored in a recognition dictionary 18 and performs pattern recognizing operation. A display control part 19 displays the pattern recognition result according to the input direction of the handwriting pattern.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
