METHOD FOR ALIGNING CENTER OF BUTT WELDED STEEL PIPE AND FRONT END GUIDE OF PIPE INSIDE SURFACE WELDING MACHINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide protection of a welding torch and to speed up the preparatory work for welding by contracting an expansion and contraction clamping means to arrange this means in the groove position on an existing steel pipe side, guiding a newly installed steel pipe so as to cover clamping means by using a front end guide and expanding the clamping means to fix the pipes. ;SOLUTION: An inside surface welding machine is advanced near to the front end of the existing pipe and is stopped. Cables are removed from the connector at the front end of the welding machine. The removed cables are passed in the newly installed pipe brought near to the front end of the existing pipe and are again welded to the connector at the front end of the welding machine. The clamping means 5 of the welding machine is aligned to the groove position at the front end of the existing pipe and a traveling truck 4 of the inside surface welding machine is so fixed as to prevent the misalignment of the position. The newly installed steel pipe approximates to the existing steel pipe and moves so as to cover clamping means 5. At this time, the front end guide existing in front of the clamping means 5 guides the newly installed steel pipe to the position of the clamping means 5. The clamping head 17 of the clamping means 5 operates to fix the two steel pipes at the moment the butting of these steel pipes is adequately executed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
