PURPOSE:To obtain a calculation method which can also calculate a vehicle speed at the time of a low vehicle speed accurately. CONSTITUTION:This method consists of a step for obtaining a vehicle speed at a time when a (N-1)th pulse is generated according to a time interval T(N-1) from a time where a (N-2)th pulse is generated to a time when the (N-1)th pulse is generated out of pluses which are generated in proportion to the vehicle speed, a step for obtaining the vehicle speed at a time when an (N)th pulse is generated according to a time interval T(N) from the time where the (N-1)th pulse is generated to the time where the (N)th pulse is generated, a step for obtaining a difference between the vehicle speed at the time where the (N-1)th pulse which is obtained in this manner is generated and that at the time where the (N)th pulse is generated and a change rate of the vehicle speed at the time the (N)th pulse is generated according to the time interval T(N), and a step for calculating the vehicle speed assuming that the vehicle speed changes based on the above change rate of the vehicle according to the vehicle speed at the time when the (N)th pulse is generated.
