PURPOSE:To eliminate operational delay of a piston member engagable with the clutch member by lowering the pressure in a power chamber with correspondence to supply of fluid from a direct-coupled clutch controller to the operating chamber. CONSTITUTION:A torque converter control valve is provided in a clutch control circuit to lower the pressure in a power chamber 10a with correspondence to supply of fluid from a direct-coupled control valve into a operating chamber 18b thus to increase the differential pressure between said chambers 18b and 10a. Consequently, the differential pressure between said chambers 18b an 10a can be increased without increasing the supply or pressure of fluid to be fed into the operating chamber 18b in a fluid coupling to function the piston member 18a. Consequently, operational delay of the piston member 18a engagable/disengagable with the clutch member 18c can be eliminated.
