PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide excellent anti-oxidation performance by manufacturing raw fibers in a conventional method, coating them with one or more sorts of coating precursor, and heat-decomposing it. ;SOLUTION: Si organic polymer such as polysilazane or the like having a fusing point of about 100-200C is extruded through a porous nozzle of a uniaxial screw extruder to be spun into raw fibers and taken by a spool. The spool is left in air to be crosslinked, and it is then immersed in dimethyl formamide solution of a polyacrylonitrile in concentration of about 0.1-5 wt.%. It is drawn to be heated in an inert gas atmosphere at about 600-1,000C for about 0.5-1,000 min. to heat-decompose coating precursor, thereby coated ceramic fibers such as pyrocarbon-coated silicon nitride fibers having a diameter of 5-500 m, a coating thickness of up to 2 m, containing an Si content of 35-70%, a C content of 0-40%, an N content of 0-40%, and an 0 content of 0-40%, and containing other elements such as B, Al, Ti or the like by 0-15% are obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
